Bye.

I love blogspot (despite my lack of posts.) I really do. However, for simplicity sake, I'm moving over to tumblr where I am also hosting my portfolio. So no longer is it artisticsponge.blogspot.com but artisticsponge.tumblr.com. Thanks for the people who have stumbled across this blog, I appreciate being able to share some of my work with the world.

Avoiding Finals

Yes, it is my finals week. Yes, I have other projects I should be working on and exams I should be studying for, however, I wanted to get a bit of drawing in before the final crush. I've been watch some videos of an artist  with watercolor and ink. Really impressive stuff, I'll share it next time.

But anyways, here is the result of my 4 hour break.

Swirly Hair
Apparently I like my skin tones fairly yellow. I guess that is just the color I end up with when I'm messing with hue controls. Also, the pattern in the hair has been a recent fascination of mine. It is a ton of fun to draw and it doesn't look half bad either...although it is covering half of my notebooks now. Also, remember that you can click the picture to see it full size!

Edit: Ooops, forgot my signature. You'd better not steal it, I'll be watching.

CircleDraw

I wanted to make this a while ago. I recent thought of a way to do it and it only took me a couple hours. Basically, the program will take the three points given by the handles and will overlay a circle if one exists. Grab the handles to move them around.

Sometimes you just have to add beard.

Well, I didn't get the drawing I wanted so I added a beard among other things. Although this is more of a failed attempt, I thought I should share. How often do you get to see an artist's mistakes? Granted this isn't the worst fiasco I've ever had.
Oh yeah, the picture is huge.
Edit: My sister sent me this:
Is that why you grew your beard? To hide the mess-up of your face? Haha, just kidding. Go back to whatever you were doing.
No, Mary, that is not why have a beard.

Keeping to My Blog Name

ArtisticSponge. I chose that name because I have a tendency to copy others art styles. I think I just become infatuated with their work and wish their style belonged to me. But on a less selfish note, I use them to practice. What is that quote again?
Good artists copy. Great artists steal. --- Pablo Picasso
Today's infatuation is Aoshima Chiho. She incorporates almost all unsettling yet peaceful landscapes with a haunting child-like face. I took a liking to We like the night, a cityscape using the same visage. I tried capturing one of her buildings and using some of the same techniques of multimedia art but in digital form.

I definitely hit the outline with a heavy hand but I'm happy with the false watercolor effect I achieved. I like this sort of practice, so maybe I will do more in the future.

The El Passenger

I drew these on a scrap of paper and felt that instead of trying to find someway to preserve it, I would just redraw it on the computer. Problem solved! Anyways, there is quite the variety of people that sit on the train. Foreigners, tourists, businessmen, students, etc... Always good practice to see if you can capture their likeness for a later date. (Note: that the sleeping luchador was not on the train.)

Did this sketch back in LA. Which reminds me, I should post some of the 3D training stuff I did at Sony.
